Biographical / Historical
Master drummer Abraham K. Adzenyah was born in 1939 in Gomoa Aboso, Via Agona Swedru, Ghana, West Africa. He served as Adjunct Professor of West African Music, Culture and Dance at Wesleyan University for over forty years, beginning in 1969 after serving as an instructor at the University of Ghana. While maintaining a career as an international performer, Adzenyah instructed performing groups of students on the social/recreational, religious/ceremonial, and warrior musics of Ghana.
