Musician Eddie Moore lectured on 9/7/1976 (2015-0002/RR234). Moore was a drummer who was active from the 1960s-1990.

RR 234 Edward O'Connor makes announcements regarding dance and theatre groups being formed and meeting in the Afro-American Cultural Center, class related issues and then introduces Hale Smith as the instructor for the course. Hale Smith introduces Eddie Moore (percussionist), who is accompanied by reed (saxophone, etc.) player Dewey Redmond and poet Jamel Carma. Moore will speak first, Redmond will play followed by Carma reading his poetry.

Biographical / Historical

Eddie Moore born in San Francisco, CA, on September 14, 1940. A drummer, Moore toured in several countries including Vietnam, India, Denmark, and other European countries. Upon returning to the USA in 1970, Moore lived in New York where he recorded and toured with Stanley Turrentine, Sonny Rollins, Redman, Woody Shaw, and Benny Wallace. In the early 1980s, Moore moved to San Francisco and played with Bobby Hutcherson, led his own band, and was a freelance musician. Throughout the 1980s Moore played with various west-coast jazz bands until his death in 1990. The Eddie Moore Jazz Festival was named after Moore.
