The Abolitionist (1)
Scope and Contents
These publications are about the abolition of prison slavery in the United States that was made possible by the Thirteenth Amendment. The folder contains three issues of ‘The Abolitionist’: the first issue (Volume 3, No. I) subtitled “Bridging the Abyss,” the second “Prison Slavery in the 13th Amendment: An Introduction to the CAPS Pamphlet,” the third (Volume 3, No. 2). All issues included letters of testimony from inmates and articles describing the difficult conditions prison inmates experience. The issues also contain forms that could be used to collect signatures towards a petition to “Abolish Prison Slavery.”
