Arrangement
The materials in this collection have been intellectually arranged into five series devised by the archivist. There has been little physical arrangement of the collection beyond maintaining folders created by Samuel Charters. Most of the folders in the collection were created by Charters. When given, original folder titles have been preserved. With few exceptions, the original order of the documents in these folders has also been preserved.
Series I: Project Files is arranged alphabetically by project title. Series II: Poetry and Series III: Tomas Transtromer are arranged chronologically. Series III: Correspondence is divided into three subseries, Subseries A: Literary Business Correspondence, Subseries B: Correspondence with Poets and Artists, and Subseries C: General Correspondence. These materials are arranged chronologically, with the exception of Subseries B: Correspondence with Poets and Artists, which is arranged alphabetically by the last name of the person with whom Charters corresponded. Series V: Personal Library is arranged chronologically.
