History

The Department of Allied Health Sciences was established at the University of Connecticut in 1972 as the School of Allied Health in order to provide an environment to train and educate allied health specialists within the state. Since that time the school has focused on providing valuable guidance to students wishing to train as professionals in physical therapy, diagnostic genetic sciences, medical technology, and dietetics. In 2006 the School of Allied Health became a part of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Connecticut, and was renamed the Department of Allied Health Sciences. During the reorganization the Physical Therapy department became a part of the Neag School of Education, where it is currently a part of the Department of Kinesiology.

In addition to the graduate programs offered, the Department of Allied Health Sciences has also provided undergraduates with valuable training in preperation for professional careers, offering majors in the medical, dental, and nursing fields. The department continues to promote the education of those who serve the state in the Allied Health fields.
