Scope and Content

Collection includes correspondence from Cid Corman (1957-1960), written while Petersen was living in Japan and Corman was in Europe, Japan and San Francisco. The letters contain extensive discussions of literature and philosophy, Corman's experiences as a teacher in Japan, and the literary scene in San Francisco. Also includes one letter from Corman to Gary Snyder (1957) and a copy of Petersen's The Day of the Hundred Dances (1975) with holograph notes, two versions of "September Ridge" (photocopies of annotated and corrected typescripts), published in Gary Snyder: Dimensions of a Life; and photocopies of Berkeley Bussei 1956, with holograph notes.

Biography

American Buddhist poet and artist, Will Petersen was born in 1928 in Chicago, Illinois. An associate of Gary Snyder and Cid Corman, Petersen edited the magazine Plucked Chicken.
