Scope and Content

The collection contains memoranda concerning student employment and items distributed to staff as well as a plan for the photographic laboratory in Storrs Hall (includes two oversize blueprints of Storrs Hall, basement floor). The folder for the Masonic Club at UConn is the only documentation of this organization to date.

Biography

Solomon E. Wollman, a Hartford native and graduate of Hartford schools, came to the University of Connecticut in 1951 as chief photographer after several years of professional experience.

A graduate of the Pensacola School of Photography, Wollman served for four years as a U.S. Marine Corps photographer during World War II, and later served as industrial photographer for the United Aircraft Corporation.

During his years at the University, Wollman was employed not only as University photographer but also director of the photographic laboratory. He received many awards and commendations for his work, including the first Distinguished Photographer Award (1963, 1971) of the University Photographers Association, of which he was a founding member.

Unknown. Presumably transferred upon retirement or by Photographic Laboratory soon thereafter.
