Scope and Contents
The collection contains the administrative files of the Simsbury, Connecticut-based organization, Plowshares Institute, which focuses on peace building, education, and global conflict transformation. This collection is currently closed for research until June 2012. Materials in the collection include news clippings, publications, administrative records, correspondence, financial records, newsletters, notes, and various professional publications. Materials in the collection refer to such subjects as human rights, ministry, religion/ideology, social and political issues in Africa, Asia and Latin and South America. The collection also contains materials related to international travel seminars, the Plowshares newsletter - State of the Plow -
the Iraq War, New Zealand, Senator Christopher Dodd, Chinese Christians, and conflict resolution.
Areas included in the collection include Hong Kong, China, Indonesia, Kenya, Uganda, the U.S., Latin America, and Cuba. Other topics include HIV/AIDS in Africa, the Tutu Foundation for Development and Relief in Southern Africa, UCLA, the Pew Trust, and Plowshares Leader's guide and manual.

History
The Plowshares Institute, based in Simsbury, CT, works for a more just, peaceful, and sustainable world through Mediation, Consultation and Facilitation, Community Conflict Transformation (CCT) Training, International Travel Seminars, and Research and Writing. The center was founded in 1985 and has designed and implemented projects intended to bring about social change by addressing social risks and conflicts throughout the world. The center has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize.
