Norman Bender was Senior Extension Educator and Center Coordinator, New London County Extension Center from 1978 until his retirement in April 2011. Bender was was associated with the Connecticut Sea Grant Marine Advisory Program. He later was involved with the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources’ Agriculture Risk Management Program, which he co-developed and led the team for several years. The risk management program is now one of Extension’s key agricultural offerings. An agricultural economist by training, Bender served Extension statewide and was a leader in many aspects of agriculture and resource economics over the years, including ag tourism, marketing, and risk management, to mention a few.

The collection contains correspondence, notes, articles and publications created or collected by Mr. Bender during his tenure in the University of Connecticut, Cooperative Extension Service.
Provenance and Acquisition
The collection was donated to the University Archives by Mr. Bender in 2012.
