Abstract James Harwood Barnett was born in Owensboro, KY, on 9 October 1906. Barnett was employed by the University of Connecticut in 1935 as an instructor in Sociology. He specialized in the history of social thought and the sociology of art and literature. He attained full professorship in 1948 and was head of the Sociology Department from 1948 until 1962. Barnum, Richardson and Company, as it was first called, was a small firm specializing in the production of clock and sash weights, plow castings, and other small items. Abstract

Maxine Bartow and Fielding Dawson had a brief romance from March through May of 1959. The friendship between the two continued despite their separation and marriages to other people in the early 1960s, as demonstrated by the correspondence from Dawson. Also included is the manuscript of a short story by Dawson and the proofs of several of his publications. Two photographs, taken in 1958, are also in the collection.
