American Montessori Society Records

Abstract

The American Montessori Society (AMS) Records document the history of an important American educational organization, and consist of printed, typescript, and handwritten materials; sound recordings; films; photographs; and slides. The collection, although not complete, reflects AMS's professional and administrative activities and also provides historical information about the Montessori system of education in general.

Rufus A. Blanshard Papers

Abstract

Rufus A. Blanshard was an Emeritus Professor of English at the University of Connecticut. He was involved with combating racism at the university during the 1970s and 1980s, and was influential in introducing an alternative classroom curriculum to the University. Materials in the collection are comprised of his personal papers, and include documents related to his civil rights work.

Hugh Clark Papers

Abstract

Hugh Clark received his bachelor's degree from Clark University in 1934 and a doctoral degree from the University of Michigan in 1941. He was employed by the University of Iowa from 1945 to 1947, when he joined the faculty at the University of Connecticut. Clark specialized in developmental biology and retired from the University in 1983. The collection contains correspondence, administrative, professional and personnel files relating to Clark's responsibilities and interests.

Martha Hewitt Papers

Abstract Martha Hewitt was the wife of Dr. Harold Hewitt. Abstract

Charles Lewis Beach attended the University of Wisconsin. He served on the faculty of the Storrs Agricultural College and Connecticut Agricultural College as an instructor in Dairy Husbandry (1894-1904). After serving in a similar position at the University of Vermont, Beach returned to the College as its fourth president in 1908. Beach Hall was dedicated in his honor in 1929 a year after his retirement from the college. Charles Lewis Beach died 15 September 1933.

The Office of the Registrar compiles information about undergraduate courses and programs. The staff registers students, creates and maintains their records, provides certified documents, issues transcripts, processes grades, monitors NCAA student athletes' academic progress, and audits degrees. A significant portion of the collection is restricted from general use. In 2017, the Office of Graduate Records was incorporated into the Office of the Registrar.

Howard A. Seckerson Papers

His development of the department assisted in the conversion from a vocational college into a state university in 1939. George Safford Torrey was born 14 March 1891 in Boston, Massachusetts. Torrey was hired in 1915 as an instructor of Botany at the Connecticut Agricultural College and in 1928 received tenure and was appointed Head of the Botany Department. Torrey retired from the University in 1953 and died in 1977.
